Revival

1/1/11

I hadn't planned to make this an official New Year's resolution or anything like that. It's more like the first chance I've taken to make another entry, coincidently is on January 1st, 2011.

2010 was a pretty good year all things being considered. Financially shaky, spiritually rewarding. I got out into the desert some, but not as much as I would have liked.

At no time throughout the year was the Desert Gazette kept up and maintained properly. :-)

Q. Are there going to be changes to the Gazette policy in the up coming year?

A. Nothing planned--will have to see how it goes.

Photo of the Year

My favorite shot taken in 2010 was taken early on in the year.

Winterkind

Inspiration Point, west of Wrightwood, CA., along Highway 2, was covered in a cloud passing over the saddle. The sun was trying to beat through and gave off an awesome diffused light. This goes fast. No sooner than it took to compose, set up and click the shutter, everything went flat. I've been having 12x18 metal prints on a floating wall mount made (unsigned- $147.50). The effect is positively engaging. It has been quite popular.

Making Plans

Rain: There was a good lot of it in December. That, along with the rainfall we had in the autumn, and a promising January ahead of us, I'm thinking this (2011) will be a great wildflower season. I'm hoping to come up with some kind of plan to get out into it.

Somewhere in the next few weeks I need to make it out to Death Valley. I'm hoping to get a nice panorama of a scene I have in mind. I'm thinking of 3 days and two nights. Too cold for me to camp though.
