Health nut


This year I am focusing on, happiness through health! Every month we will discuss a different aspect of wellness. Feel free to share what you know and ask any questions.

I would like to start us off with, using food as medicine. think of your body as a machine. You must keep fueling it with the right stuff to function properly. Higher amounts of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals are found in Organic fruits and vegetables. that reduce heart disease, cancers, and improve allergies. Why is this important? Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the U.S. It is an umbrella term, that covers a range of heart complications. Most of which are either caused by bad cholesterol (From a poor diet), or high blood pressure (From lack of physical activity). while, most hospital food is high in fat, cholesterol, sodium, and sugar; contributing to medical problems. There are a few hospitals that have woken up! Their patients and employees reap the benefits of fresh produce. St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, PA has a “10-acer organic farm that yields 30 varieties of vegetables and fruits.”(Feting, Judith) Other hospitals have even larger farms up to 340-acers that reduce large amount of lawn mowing and chemicals. This is not just about healing faster, but instilling healthy eating habits, saving the environment and ourselves from harmful chemicals, and even gardening therapy. Decrease your need for acute medical care, save yourself the bills and pain. How? it’s simple, fuel your body with what it needs and avoid toxins.
My question is, how do we get more hospitals to care more about our health, then their wealth?
