Health nut

This year I am focusing on, happiness through health! Every month we will discuss a different aspect of wellness. Feel free to share what you know and ask any questions.

I would like to start us off with, using food as medicine. think of your body as a machine. You must keep fueling it with the right stuff to function properly. Higher amounts of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals are found in Organic fruits and vegetables. that reduce heart disease, cancers, and improve allergies. Why is this important? Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the U.S. It is an umbrella term, that covers a range of heart complications. Most of which are either caused by bad cholesterol (From a poor diet), or high blood pressure (From lack of physical activity). while, most hospital food is high in fat, cholesterol, sodium, and sugar; contributing to medical problems. There are a few hospitals that have woken up! Their patients and employees reap the benefits of fresh produce. St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, PA has a “10-acer organic farm that yields 30 varieties of vegetables and fruits.”(Feting, Judith) Other hospitals have even larger farms up to 340-acers that reduce large amount of lawn mowing and chemicals. This is not just about healing faster, but instilling healthy eating habits, saving the environment and ourselves from harmful chemicals, and even gardening therapy. Decrease your need for acute medical care, save yourself the bills and pain. How? it’s simple, fuel your body with what it needs and avoid toxins.
My question is, how do we get more hospitals to care more about our health, then their wealth?

I had an amazing, amazing time sharing Cupping massage with high energy people. At the ISI gym’s, Ronald McDonald charity event. http://www.isielite.com/ http://www.rmhc.org/
What a fun group of people and an exciting exercise environment. I will diffidently be back, next time to sweat. The Ronald McDonald foundation has helped so many people. Including my family, when my nephew was being treated for cancer. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to donate my services for one of their charity events.

What blog platform do I use?

I am using Word press. There are many different themes to choose from. I tried on a few, and really like this one. The only thing I have not been able to edit is the font. It has been pretty simple to work with. It has been fun figuring it all out. 🙂 no throwing of devices.

Mindfulness

The Oxford Dictionary explains mindfulness as follows:

the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something:
“their mindfulness of the wider cinematic tradition”
a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic
technique.

Practicing mindfulness is an excellent way to reduce stress and anxiety. Negative stress can lead to disease in body, and sometimes death. When we practice mindfulness in everything we do, we are safer, more efficient, and often calm.

While working, I practice mindfulness everyday with my clients. I must focus on what I am physically doing with my body posture and how I am using it. at the same time, I am focused on the body that needs my therapeutic care. Most importantly, I must stay mindful of how the client is feeling, what they want, and any unspoken ques they may be showing. It is an intuitive dance and in these moments, I feel very peaceful. Now the trick is to practice, so that life is this way in all things. the other day I cut my finger open washing the dishes, because my focus was elsewhere, that wont happen again. ha-ha.

That reminds me of something called the grilled cheese theory. growing up when we were given a grilled cheese sandwich usually one side would have burnt. Do to multi tasking. How you do anything in life, is how you will do everything. so, if we give our all, our full attention to the small things we do every day; imagine all the big things we could accomplish.

What helps you to focus your mind, when you are being pulled several directions?

If you have a busy mind and trouble relaxing, you might like to try guided mediation. I will write more about affirmations soon. If you’re interested, before you so to sleep play this video, see it helps guide you into a deeper sleep.

3 Wishes

Positive energy and emotions broadens thinking, expands awareness, increase abilities, build resiliency and create an upward spiral of learning and growth. when facing life’s challenges, let us be filled with gratitude, for the opportunity for creativity and growth. keeping a positive outlook in all tings gives us the power to make our dreams our reality.

“You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true.” -Richard Bach

Tell me about your hopes and dreams for the future. If you found a magic lamp and a genie where to grant you 3 wishes, what would they be?
