Zzyzx Photo Meetup/Workshop


December 5-7, 2008

The purpose of this meetup and informal workshop is to introduce photographers to the exceptionally scenic opportunities of the former Zzyzx Health Resort, located on what is now a portion of the Mojave National Preserve. The area is saturated with history and the beauty of the center of the Mojave Desert. Now known as the Desert Studies Center (DSC), Zzyzx, this weekend is being offered to explore and photograph the area at both sunrise and sunset as well as throughout the day while enjoying the comfort of meals and lodging at this unique facility. The DSC dormitories and cabins are not available to the general public.

Cost is $275 per person - $245 if paid in full before October 5, 2008
All costs for the seminar must be paid in full 30 days before the event (November 5, 2008).


Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel, please notify us at least 14 days prior to the start of the meetup and we will process your request minus a $15 processing fee. No refunds, transfers, or credits will be granted after the fourteen-day date. Please note that we cannot make any exceptions to this refund policy for any reason, including but not limited to medical reasons, illness, travel delays, personal situations, emergencies, or weather.

A snack will be provided Friday night, however, dinner will not be served (There are several restaurants in Baker). Saturday includes breakfast lunch and dinner. Breakfast will be served Sunday and a sack lunch provided for the optional field trip and departure.

Meetup/Workshop attendees will need to bring their own bedding (sleeping bag, blankets, pillow, etc.) for the single beds in the dormitories. Towels, washcloths and soap, shampoo and other toiletries are the responsibility of the attendees.

Upon receipt of your registration, we will send you an itinerary, map, enrollment confirmation.

Safety, Insurance, and Physical Fitness
Every effort is made to ensure your safety. However, participants are responsible for their own safety and accident insurance. We do not accept responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged property or any bodily injury incurred during the meetup/workshop. You must sign a liability waiver in order to participate. Participants must be in good physical condition for activities in a desert that may be hot, dry, windy, and sometimes surprisingly cold.

Health Questionnaire and Waiver of Liability
Each participant will be required to fill out a Liability Waiver/Assumption of Risk and Health Questionnaire before participating. Your information is confidential and will be used in case of emergency only. Participants must provide their own health and accident insurance. Please obtain a doctor’s clearance if you have any condition that may impact your ability to participate.

Weather, Clothing, and Equipment
The meetup/workshop will be held rain or shine. We reserve the right to change the itinerary due to weather or other conditions. Attendees should be prepared for a variety of desert weather conditions, including cold and windy days. Appropriate clothing, footwear, and sun protection are very important. Clothing and equipment needs will be identified in your information packet. Be prepared - bring plenty of water!
